The Mind of a Strawberry and Tax Cuts

Strawberry plants and I differ as to their purpose. Part of the deal is this: I prepare their bed; plant, fertilize, and water them. They produce berries for me. That is our contractual arrangement. But the unaligned purpose of a strawberry plant is to produce more strawberry plants. Mostly by sending out runners. But the energy used to send out runners is taken away, at least in part, from producing berries. I fell down on my task of clipping new runners last year, and the bed got overfull of new plants, and mulch. The berries which did develop were often lost and rotted. Bad gardener. So. I’m clearing mulch and extra, crowding plants from the old bed. It will stay in place until the end of the season, when I take it and the remaining small beds out, to be replaced by raised beds, as in the rest of the garden. Lots of spiders in that patch.

Are Congressional Republicans nuts?
Short answer: yes.
Tax cuts. If tax cuts worked, we would not have the economic meltdown we are experiencing. Besides. With the Republican-engineered recession, tax cuts are self actuating. There is less to be taxed.
Victims
So President Obama visits House Republicans and is told that mean ‘ole Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the Democrats are not following the Republicans’ lead on the stimulus package. Losing is difficult to experience. But for adults to whine? Well. It really is funny. I am enjoying it far too much.
It will be interesting to see how Mr. Obama walks through this minefield. One he constructed with an attempt at joining together disparate political interests. I am so pleased he is making the effort. It is far more honorable and good for our country that he does. But every once in awhile, I want to say, “Sit down and shut up. You lost.” Probably a good thing I’m not President.
It is half past seven and the morning sun is hitting Oakland and San Francisco as alpenglow. The Golden Gate Bridge is faint in the haze. Yellow-orange light on the nearby trees. I live in Paradise. I have no complaints.
Walk well. God is love.
