Once Again!

Nothing comes close to the expressing ebullience I experience in the simple pleasure of a good day as this song. The only words applicable are “One fine day . . . ” and they’re enough. What a great tune.

Anyway, Elaine called from Palm Springs, the cat rolled over on her back when I went to pet her, I got four half wine barrels filled with soil and fertilizer, weeded the artichokes, hiked for an hour in Joaquin Miller Park, built an ad for a client, washed and dried sheets and towels, ate vanilla ice cream!

One fine day.

I heard a story on NPR about some women in Africa who are subsidized for twenty-seven months, putting beads on string. And the money they earn is theirs to do with as they please. One woman started three businesses with almost no money. Has her own home, feeds her children. She had lost a husband to murderers because he was on the wrong side politically. And now? She talks about the freedom of being her own boss. Of being able to get up when she wants. Of doing the work she chooses. And every once in awhile she has one fine day. I understand.

Walk well. God is love.
