Making a List

Lists on my Dashboard
Few things give me a sense of control of my life as much as making lists and checking off tasks. And I came to this process late. One thing list-making requires is mindful attention to the day. And to my priorities and acceptance of tasks. Recognizing I have choices and exercising the freedom.
Recognizing and accepting necessity is part of it, as well. But even that can be addressed with an overlay of freedom. As I winnow relationships, add new ones I suspect to be of value, necessity tends towards choice.
I understand that no amount of control, list-making, or organization can prevent unwanted events. The exercise might even be a dance of denial. But it is the best I know how to do. When I got home from Missouri and began to address the grief over my brother’s death, I decided to act as if I wanted to get back to the life I had built. That decision is bearing fruit. The common, simple acts of life and the love of friends and family make life livable and sweet. “Thank you, God, for this day.”
Walk well. God is love.
