Old Man Learning

I began looking for a way to lose weight some years ago. And did not trust any of the commercial methods I knew of. Deciding to set up a site for people like me, I searched the Internet for information. And came across cyberdiet.com. It was started by someone who is now a friend of mine. She and her partner gathered peer reviewed material, trustworthy staff, and worked hard to learn the new medium in order to present this to a large audience. It worked for people who worked for it.

I began hiking. I learned a new skill. And learning that taught me that age is not the issue when it comes to acquiring new knowledge or abilities. With some exceptions. But the exceptions are fewer than I had imagined.

Okay. That is prologue.

I am growing beautiful vegetables. Such joy. And my way of cooking vegetables is similar to what my mother did. Boil.

Elaine had one of my nieces and me up for dinner a few evenings ago. Carrot soup. An Alice Waters recipe. Extraordinarily good. Simple. Healthful. And now Elaine has loaned me the cookbook. Beautifully printed, bound. And wisdom worthy of the subject.

Such joy. New things.

Walk well. God is love.

The Art of Simple Food? That’s an amazing book! It has become our go-to. I never thought it would, because there aren’t all that many recipes compared to Joy of Cooking– but they are SO GOOD. In fact, I’m going to make the lentil salad this week. The risotto is another favorite. Oh, and the carnitas when pork shoulder is on sale.
