Color and Light

Excellence is a choice to honor God.
I do not know the religion of Alan Hovhaness who wrote The Prayer of Saint Gregory or of Wynton Marsalis, trumpet, or Anthony Newman, organ. But they do honor to God with their art.
I listened to the piece (YouTube video below) today on my hike.
A sparkling day. Windy. Cool. The air was clean. And I started up.

Apse of Grace Cathedral (Episcopal), San Francisco
I attended a wedding in the apse and a funeral. It is the blues and reds that are traditionally the primary colors of stained glass windows. And in late Medieval, early Renaissance art.

Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry
As I listened to the Prayer, I had a sense of these colors. A strong sense of being enveloped by them as by the organ music. And then the bright golden light of the trumpet comes in and weaves through space.
If you have an opportunity to hear the Marsalis/Newman version, take it.
It was a prayerful dance.
Walk well. God is love.
