Inglorious Basterds

I just saw Inglorious Basterds. The last line of dialog: ” . . . this might just be my masterpiece.” Then Quentin Tarantino’s name comes up in the credits. Apt.
Walk well. God is love.

The iPhone:

GPS device: I have already tested it with an upload to GPSMotionX app of Section A of the trail. Amazing. I can press a button and see my location relative to the trail. In seconds.
Telephone: with preloaded numbers of trail angels and vendors along the trail, and vendors for special items like shoes.

I told Elaine

She looked at me wryly and said, “It’s not as if you had a choice.”
Walk well. God is love.

Chez J J

Jeff said it last night when I called him to talk about the early part of the hike. As soon as I made the decision to hike, I began planning.
I could pack up and head to the border and walk north tomorrow. But. I’m not. So. I must fill the time between now and the [...]

A migratory bird

Billy Goat redux. I am become a migratory bird.
April. J J heads north from Campo.
I knew the decision I would make when I felt the emotion on seeing Chipper’s photographs. Smiling hikers. My tribe. I spent very little time with any of the hikers in the pictures. Yet we are bound. Forever. Without ever talking [...]

Poor old Noah

Think about being on a sailing vessel with a menagerie of animal pairs, relatives, and rain. For forty days and forty nights. Rain. Wooden ship. Rain seeps through the decks. The stench. The mold. The noise. The complaining.
We are having a lot of rain this month. And it looks as if it is going [...]

Make a joyful noise

I was thinking of Ladysmith Black Mambazo tonight and found this on YouTube. Paul Simon. Showman. Singer. Composer. Thinker. He and his music dance with LBM. A good combination.
Walk well. God is love.

A different approach

A new friend walks with crutches. And wants fresh vegetables grown in her yard. She cannot bend to garden. She did not complain. She started a neighborhood group that matches people who want to garden on others’ property with those who have space and want gardening help.
A solution. She is amazing.
Walk well. God is love.

I’m going crazy

I want to hike the PCT again this year. A hiker friend, Chipper, found me on Facebook and we hooked up. She has a lot of pictures of me on the PCT in 2004. And the yearning came flooding back. Powerfully. It makes no sense. None at all. I’m going nuts with this conflict between [...]

iPad?

There was nothing ” . . . one more thing” momentous in the Apple announcement yesterday. Apple stock went down a couple of points, and is down more than eight points as I write this today. The iPad is not the iPod and it is not the iPhone.
It is a Gillette razor.
There has been [...]

Old Man Walking - a site written by an old man who walks. And writes code for web pages. And gardens. The site is intended to allow me to share my experience in these areas. That's all.
